The city of Kandy, where the Temple of the Tooth is located, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The monks of both Malwathu and Asgiriya offer offerings to the Tooth Relic daily. This pooja (theva) is performed three times a day (morning, noon and evening). The Nanumura festival is held on Wednesdays as a special offering. Here the Tooth Relic is symbolically bathed in fragrant medicinal water. It is believed that the water from this bath has a healing effect. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is worshiped daily by thousands of devotees from all over the world. 1988. The cultural value of the temple, which brings great value to Buddhists around the world, is immense. This architecture is a unique combination of Kandyan style architecture with a unique style used to build the "Temple of the Tooth" which was previously housed in other kingdoms.
By the time of the last Kingdom of Kandy, the Temple of the Tooth was the world's tallest shrine.
